SEC to Propose Rulemaking Regarding Trump’s Recommendation to End Quarterly Earnings Reporting

On September 19th, SEC Chair Paul Atkins shared with CNBC that the agency will propose a rule change that would end quarterly earnings reporting. This announcement follows President Trump’s call to switch quarterly earnings reports to a semiannual schedule. The SEC has determined that the proposed change to the current rules would be a beneficial action to take, and if the rule change is approved, companies would be able to decide whether to switch to semiannual or stay with the quarterly schedule. SEC, CFTC to Hold Joint Roundtable on Regulatory Harmonization Efforts

The Securities and Exchange Commission, in conjunction with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will host a public roundtable to discuss regulatory harmonization efforts and to establish more sound and competitive US markets. The event is open to the public to attend via webcast on the SEC’s website, but registration is required. The roundtable takes place on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
