On September 20th, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) received SEC approval for amendments to MSRB Rule G-14 on reports of sales or purchases. The new rule shortens the amount of time by which brokers, dealers, and municipal securities dealers are required to report most transactions to the MSRB. Initially proposed in January 2024, this rule is intended to increase public interest in the municipal securities market by enhancing the market’s transparency. The amendments reflect substantial revisions made to the trade reporting standard and allow investors and other market participants to have access to more real-time prices. The SEC recently approved amendments to certain rules under Regulation National Market System (Regulation NMS) that would update variable minimum pricing increments for the quoting and trading of NMS stocks, reduce the access fee caps, and increase the transparency of better-priced orders placed in the NMS. On September 18th, the SEC published the draft of the 2025 updates to its reporting taxonomies, including updates within the annual review and update process for all SEC taxonomies accepted in the EDGAR system. The SEC recently adopted rules to amend Form N-4, the form currently used by most variable annuity separate accounts. As part of these changes, the registration, filing, and data transparency requirements that were adopted for registered index-linked annuities (RILAs) offerings have been broadened to the offerings of registered market value adjustment annuities (registered MVA annuities). Now the new elements needed to tag this information have been included in the VIP taxonomy because RILAs and registered MVA annuities are insurance products whose offerings are registered on Form N-4. On September 16, 2024, the SEC’s EDGAR system was upgraded to Release 24.3 and now supports the Cybersecurity Disclosure (CYD) taxonomy, which provides the elements for tagging required disclosures using Inline XBRL (a structured, machine-readable data language) in accordance with the related final rule.
